Finding a better way forward

Environment

We're respecting the environment.

At MICHELIN®, a big part of finding a better way forward™ is finding one that's more environmentally friendly.

From the tire design phase, to the materials chosen by our research department, to the manufacturing process, we're constantly looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact. Here are just a few of the steps we've taken:

  • Protecting Forests: MICHELIN® has kept over 1,000 hectares (2,470 acres) of its Bahia rubber plantation totally uncultivated, to help protect primeval forest and the flora and fauna within.
  • Recycle and Reuse: MICHELIN® is continually looking for ways to recycle and reuse tires. Among their many uses, endofuse tires can be shredded as railway support beds or incorporated into road asphalt to reduce noi se and the risk of hydroplaning.
  • Green tires: In the modern car, 20% of a car's energy is used to overcome rolling resistance. MICHELIN® green tires reduce vehicle fuel consumption by approximately 4% compared to previous generations of tires.
  • Help Us Be Green: Today, if all vehicles were equipped with green tires, worldwide emissions of carbon dioxide would be reduced by around 80 million tons!
